SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS –    A letter to God

Ques.1.          Who was Lencho? Why did he write a letter to God?

Ans.                Lencho was a simple farmer. He was hard working man. He had good crops. He hoped for rain and it rained. But it rained heavily. It destroyed his crops. He was very sad. But he had deep faith in God. So he wrote a letter to God. He asked for help from God. He asked for 100 pesos from God.

Ques.2.          What did Lencho compare rain drops to?

Ans.                Lencho was hard working man. He had good crops. He hoped for light rain. It started raining. He compared raindrops to silver coins. The small drops are compared to five-cent. The big drops are compared to ten cent.

Ques.3.          Did the letter reach God? What did the postmaster do after reading the letter?

OR                  Why did Lencho call the post office employee “the bunch of crooks”?

Ans.                The letter reached the postmaster. He read the letter. He was impressed by Lencho’s faith. He decided to help Lencho. He collected some money. It was only seventy pesos. Lencho received the money. But he was angry. He knew that God can never make a mistake. So he called them Bunch of Crooks.

 

                                    2. A Long Walk to Freedom- Nelson Mandela

Ques.1.          Where did the ceremony take place?

Or                   What does Mandela refer to as ‘so glorious achievement?

Ans.                South Africa had been under British rule for three hundred years. It became a democratic nation on 10 May 1994. The ceremony took place in Union Building at Pretoria. Mandela became the first black president. He called it ‘so glorious achievement’.

Ques.2.          What did Mandela thank the international leaders for?

Or                   Who had come to attend the ceremony from all over the world?

Ans.                South Africa became a democratic nation on 10 May, 1994. Leaders from all over the world came to attend that ceremony. Mandela thanked them for their participation. He called it a common victory of justice and peace.

Ques.3.          What are twin obligations according to Nelson Mandela?

Ans.                Nelson Mandela became the first black president of South Africa. He said that everyone has twin obligations. The first obligation is to family and parents. The second obligation is to people and nation. We must be dutiful to these obligations.

3. TWO STORIES OF FLYING

Ques.1.          How did the seagull learn flying?

Ans.                The seagull was alone on the ledge. He did not want to fly. He was afraid of flying. He was hungry. His mother made a plan. He took a piece of fish in her beak. She flew to the ledge. The plan was successful. The seagull learnt flying. It was his first flight.

Ques.2.          How was the pilot of Dakota plane saved?

Ans.                The pilot was flying from France to England. His plane was caught in stormy clouds. He had not enough fuel. His compass and radio stopped working. He thought his end was near.  He was feared. Suddenly a black plane appeared. It helped our pilot. Our pilot followed him and landed safely. Thus our pilot was saved.

Ques.1.          Who was Anne Frank? Why did she write a diary?

Ans.                Anne was a little Jewish girl. She lived with her grandmother. After the death of her grandmother she went to her parents in Holland. She had no true friend. So she started writing a diary. She named the diary, kitty. She wrote all her experiences in the diary. The diary became her best friend.

Ques.2.          Why was Mr. Keesing annoyed with Anne? How did he punish Anne?

Ans.                Anne was a talkative girl. So Mr. Keesing did not like it. He gave Anne extra homework as a punishment. He asked her to write essays on chatterbox. Anne was an intelligent girl. She wrote the essays with good logics. She wrote that talking was a trait of a student.

Ques.1.          Who was Wanda Petronski? Where did she live?

Ans.                Wanda was a Polish girl. She lived at Boggins Height. She studied in an American school. She always wore a blue faded dress. She sat in the last row. Other girls made fun of her dress and name. Peggy asked her about her shoes and dress.  Wanda replied that she had 100 dresses at home. She had sixty pairs of shoes. Wanda was not a rough girl.

Ques.2.          When and why Peggy did Peggy and Maddie notice Wanda’s absence?

OR                  Why were Peggy and Maddie late to school? Who made them late?

Ans.                They noticed her absence on Wednesday. They waited Wanda on their way to school. But Wanda did not come. They wanted to make fun of her. They waited her. So they got late to school.

Ans.                Wanda had won the drawing contest. She had drawn designs of hundred dresses. All were beautiful and nice. It surprised all the students and teacher. But she had left the school. Peggy and Maddie were sad at this. They felt their mistakes.

Ques.1.          What are the elders in Goa nostalgic about?

OR                  Is bread baking still popular in Goa? How do you know?

Ans.                The elders are nostalgic about the Portuguese people. They recall their famous loaves of bread. Bread baking is still popular in Goa. Portuguese were fond of eating bread.  But they have left. Bread baker still comes to sell bread. They wear a dress named Kabai. Bakers are also called pader.

 

Ques.2.          Where is Coorg situated? What is it famous for?

Ans.                Coorg is the smallest district of Karnataka. It is between Manglore and Banglore. Coorg is famous for spices and coffee plantations. Coorgi people are brave and beautiful. Some say that they descended from Greeks. They wore a coat which matches the Kuppia of Arabs.

 

Ques.3.          Who are Pranjol and Rajvir? Where do they go?

Ans.                Pranjol and Rajvir are classmates. They are also best friends. Rajvir is from Delhi and Pranjol is from Assam. They go to Assam during summer vacation. They go by train. Rajvir is excited to see the beautiful greenery. They also talk about tea and its origin.

Ques.1.          What experiment did Maxwell think Camusfearna would suitable for?

Ans.                The author wanted to have an otter as a pet. He thought Camusfearna a suitable place for an otter. Camusfearna was ringed by water. He knew that otters loved watery place.

Ans.                He went to Basra to collect his mail. His mail had not arrived. He tried to telephone but it did not work. He had to wait there for five days. His mail arrived after five days.

Ans.                The British airline did not allow animals. The author had to book another flight to Paris and from there to London. He had to pack the otter in a box.  The otter escaped from the box in the plane. It created a lot of uproar in the plane.

Ans.                Valli was a little girl. She  had no playmate. She stood in the doorway of her house. She kept watching what happens in the street. A bus ran between her village and the nearest town. It was her favourite scene. The bus was the source of unending joy for her.

Ques.2.          What and how did Valli find out some details about the bus riding?

Ans.                Valli had a strong desire to travel in the bus. She was curious about the bus. She collected some information about the bus riding. She found out that the town was 20 miles from the village. One way fare was thirty paise. The bus took forty five minutes to reach the town. She got this detail from the daily passengers.

Ques.3.          Why did the conductor call Valli, madam? What kind of person was the bus conductor?

Ans.                The bus conductor was a jolly kind person. He laughed with Valli. He offered Valli his help but Valli denied his help. Valli was a self confident girl. She behaved like a grown up child. So the conductor called her, madam.

Ques.1.          Who was Kissa Gotami? Why did she go to Buddha?

Ans.                She was a poor lady. She had an only child. Her son died. She was very upset. Someone told her to go to Buddha. She went to Buddha. She requested that he should revive her dead son. But Buddha said that death is common to all. There is no medicine to treat a dead man.
