POETRY

 

Ques.1.          What is the poet’s mood in ‘The Dust of Snow’?

OR                  How was the poet’s changed with the fall of the dust of snow?

Ans.                The poet was standing under the hemlock tree. He was sad. Just then a crow sat in the branches of the tree. It shook the branches of the tree. Some dust of snow fell on the poet. The poet learnt a lesson from it. He too shook off his sadness and went for his work. Thus his mood was changed and relaxed.

Ques.2.          How will the world end according to the poem, ‘Fire and Ice’?

Ans.                Fire and Ice is a symbolical poem. Fire is the symbol of lust and desire. Ice is the symbol of hatred. The Bible says that the world will end in fire. Science says that the world will freeze to death if nuclear war takes place. So the poet says the world will end in fire or Ice.

Q.3                  Theme of the poem, The Tree.

Ans.                The Tree poem is written by Adriene Rich. The poem tells the value of trees. There is conflict between man and nature. We grow decorative plants at home. We grow them in small pots and pans. These trees are not useful for the birds and animals. Forests have been cut. Forests have become limited in houses only. She noted the growing plants. The plants were spreading out side. The poet feels the value of trees and forest for life and environment.

 

Q. 4                 Theme of the poem Animal.

Ans.                The poem, Animal is written by Walt Whitman. The poet compares man and animals. He finds that animals are better than man. Animals are calm and quiet. They are never greedy like man. They make no complaint like man. Man is greedy. But animals have no complaint. They have no hate. The poet wants to learn from animals. He loves the quality of animals.

 

Ques.5.          The main idea of the poem ‘ A Tiger in the Zoo’.

Ans.                The poem has the idea of freedom. Even animals love freedom. There is a tiger in the zoo. He moves in his cage here and there. He looks majestic. His eyes are shining. But he yearns for freedom. When the tiger was in the jungle, he was free to move and hunt. He would move through long grass. Thus the poet advocates the freedom of animals.

He did not overfed  the dog. He gave the dog exercises. The dog started getting well. The lady phoned the doctor many times. She was worried. After sometime the doctor called her. She came to take the dog. The dog had got well. The lady was very happy. Tricki jumped onto the lap of the lady. The lady said, “It was the triumph of surgery.”

 

Q.2     Who was a thief boy? How did he meet Anil?

Ans.   Thief boy is a fifteen years old. He is a clever boy. He makes friends with others easily. First he wins confidence then robs them. He met Anil. Anil is a 25 years old young man. He is a tall and lean fellow. Anil shows trust in him. One day he steals Anil’s money. He ran to the station. But he could not catch the train. He comes back to Anil. He feels his mistake. He did not want to cheat Anil. He put the money back. In the morning, Anil gave him 50 rupees. Anil knew about the stealing. The boy also felt it. The thief boy was changed now.

Ans.   Ausable was secret agent. He was staying in a hotel. He was a friendly man. Fowler was a writer. He was with Ausable. Ausable opened his room. He saw that Max was already there. Max was another secret agent. Ausable made a false story of balcony. Max was taken in it. Someone knocked the door. He told that it was police. Max jumped out of the balcony. There was no balcony. He fell down and died. Thus he got rid of Max. fowler was thrilled. There was no police. There was only a waiter at the door. Ausable was a very clever and intelligent man. It was a thrilling experience for Fowler.

Ans.   Horace Danby was a lock maker. He was 50 years old. He was honest but he was not completely honest. He loved expensive books. He needed money for it. He made thefts for it. He robbed safe every year. He made plan for it. One day he was stealing in a house. A lady came there. She told him that she was the owner of the house. She befooled Horace. She got all the jewels.  In fact she was a thief. Horace was arrested. He was put in jail. He was called honour among thieves.

Ans.   Griffin was a scientist. He was a lawless person. He made big invention. He made a medicine. It could make a man disappear. But he used it wrongly. He set fire to the house of his landlord. Then he drank the medicine and disappeared. He entered a general store. He entered a theatre company. He looted a shopkeeper. He used his medicine to escape. Finally he reached an inn. There he stole money from clergyman’s room. He behaved rudely with them. They called the police man. Griffin took off his clothes. He became headless. There all the people were terrified. The policeman could not arrest him. Thus Griffin escaped from there also. We see Griffin misused his medicine.

Ans.   Matilda was a very beautiful girl. She remained sad. She wanted to live a rich life. But she was born in a poor family. She was married to a poor clerk. One day her husband got an invitation card from his boss. Matilda was sad because she did not have any beautiful dress. She bought a beautiful dress. She borrowed a necklace from her friend. It was a golden necklace. She was looking beautiful in the party. She was very happy. She lost the necklace. They had to take a loan to buy a new necklace. It took many years to pay up the loan. Now she was not more beautiful. She had to work hard. At the end she came to know that the necklace of her friend was not original.

Ans.   The narrator was a law passes out. He worked as a summons in a law firm. But he did not like his job. Some time people beat him. The narrator was sent to New Mullion. He was sent as summons on Lutkins. At the station he met a hack driver. The hack driver helped the narrator. He took him at many places to find out Lutkins. He took the narrator to Fritz, barber and pool room. But they did not find Lutkins. He thanked the hack driver and went back. His boss sent him again there. Now a man who knew Lutkins came with him. At the railway station they saw Lutkins. The man told that the hack driver was Lutkins himself. Thus Hack driver had befooled the narrator.

Ans.   Ram lal was a numberdar. Bholi was the youngest daughter of Ramlal. She was mentally –retarded. She had smallpox marks on her face. She also stammered. Her parents were worried of her. They did not care her properly. A school was opened in her village. Bholi was sent to school. Her teacher helped her. She stopped stammering. She passed many classes. Her father settled her marriage with an aged man, Bishamber Dass. But when he saw her face, he refused to marry Bholi. He asked for an amount of five thousand rupees. Bholi refused to marry that greedy man. She said that she would look after her parents. Her teacher was proud of her.

Ans.               Hari Singh was thief boy. He was a clever boy. He changed his name every time to escape the police. Anil was a simple and kind person. It was easy to rob him. He cooked meal for Anil. It was so terrible. Anil asked him to go away. At this he smiled in an appealing way.
